In a battle for the top of the Frontier League, Louisburg wasn't going to let the new kid on the block take the top spot.
The Wildcats, long-time members of the conference, topped Piper in a battle of previously undefeateds, 28-21, on Friday night at Piper High.
Piper got on the board first with a 69-yard Dalton White run and a 7-0 lead.

But from there, Louisburg went to work, denting the scoreboard with a 20-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Madden Rutherford, then opening the second quarter with a 9-yard touchdown run by Austin Moore. The 810 Varsity Elite 81 selection ran for a game-high 206 yards in addition to the score.
Piper (3-1) was staggered from an injury to star lineman Cooper Beebe, but tied the game after a 90-yard fumble return from Brandon Snell.
However, Rutherford went back to work again, with touchdown passes of 20 and 31 yards to give Louisburg a 28-14 lead midway through the fourth quarter. For the game, Rutherford finished with 133 passing yards on 11-of-13 passing.
Piper rallied with a late drive, capped by a White touchdown plunge. White finished with 143 rushing yards and two scores, but 74 passing yards on 5-of-13 passing.
Louisburg (4-0) will face winless Eudora next week, while Piper takes on former fellow Kaw Valley League mate Tonganoxie.
